Edgeness

In anticipation of the project, Rick and I have both been reading a book called Edgelands: Journeys into England's True Wilderness by Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts. I have particularly enjoyed the section on the use of SatNavs and how information for SatNavs are determined by the US military and a company in Belgium.
This struck a chord with me because a while ago I visited a military museum in Chatham in Kent and saw information about the Ordnance Survey maps which were originally devised by the British military. I love the feel of Ordnance maps.
The notion of the Thames Estuary seems very appropriate to the ideas in Edgelands as it is hard to put into any category as a piece of land.

The Beginning of the Project

Anna and I have decided to start a blog to record some of the thoughts and the work that comes out of our mutual interests in two parts of an estuary situated by the mouth of the River Thames. We plan to visit the area next week, just after Easter to kick the project off.
